The Ahmanson Lovelace Brain Mapping Center seeks to improve our understanding of the brain in health and disease, through the comprehensive and quantitative view of its structure and function. We will develop, refine and validate tools to achieve these goals and will integrate neuroscientific information across methods, populations, laboratories and species to develop a unified and standardized model of the working brain. We will maintain a leadership position in all of these areas and provide training on these topics to students and colleagues. As befits a program within the School of Medicine, these studies will be guided often by the goal of understanding human neurological, neurosurgical or psychiatric disorders. Our research perspective is global and we seek to maintain and develop national and international collaborations to pursue this mission. The Center performs its tasks in an open and wide-spread network for the gathering and distribution of tools and data, thereby functioning as a program without traditional barriers, real or perceived. Collaborative projects will be based on scientific merit and will be performed within the capacity of the Center's resources. In all of our activities, we will strive for excellence in our philosophical, scientific, practical and humanitarian goals.
