The Shirley and Stefan Hatos Center for Neuropharmacology is named after Stefan and Shirley Hatos who have provided substantial support for its development and operation. The Director of the Center is Dr. Christopher Evans and the Center is home to the NIDA-supported UCLA Opioid Research Center. This investigates opioid systems at the molecular, cellular and behavioral levels. Although the collaborative research of the Center is primarily concerned with the action of opioids, individual faculty have research programs investigating brain nicotinic receptors, regulation of the immune system, the action of psychostimulants, memory processes associated with aging, consititutive activity of opioid receptors, GABA and serotonin receptors, opioid-related behaviors with memory and emotional processes, neurotransmitter transporters, and simultaneous imaging and electrophysiological recording of neuronal signalling.
